Purpose of the Position:

Working under the Project Manager, the Senior Process Engineer will provide process design, process safety and process development to the organization while ensuring that technical excellence, cost, schedule and contractual requirements are achieved.  This position is responsible for detailed execution of various sizes of projects and studies. The Senior Process Engineer will review and provide input into specifications, procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency throughout all projects.


  • Complete the following detailed engineering design activities:
  • Modeling, simulations and calculations of process units and process systems
  • Conduct HAZOP meetings
  • Generate control narratives
  • Prepare start-up / operating manual
  • Execute and review feasibility studies / conceptual design

Preparation and review of process engineering project deliverables including:

    • Project design criteria, design basis and process specifications
    • Developing and stamping of key design documents (Material Balance, PFD’s, P&ID’s and Shutdown Keys)
  • Process data on control valves, PSV and instrument data sheet
    • Sizing of equipment, piping, safety and control instruments and data sheets
  • Play a vital role in the PRE-FEED and FEED stages of the project
  • Assist with vendor technical bid evaluations for equipment
  • Provide technical support to field personnel for start-up
  • Monitor and review the following on a minimum weekly basis:
    • Quality, cost and scheduling of the work
    • Ensure that projects are being completed in a cost-effective way
    • Ensure Grey Owl Engineering documentation meets the minimum standard of applicable regulatory codes
  • Support the ongoing operations at Grey Owl Engineering:
    • Troubleshooting, problem solving and support for the engineering team
    • Supervision and checking of process work from junior and intermediate process engineers, including sign off
    • Development of process engineering studies and technical notes
    • Preparation of reports and recommendations for new technologies
  • Development of process control and safety design philosophies
  • Support Grey Owl Engineering’s HSE initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned


  • 10-15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably in an EPCM environment
  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited university
  • Professional engineering registration or eligible for registry with APEGA
  • Strong working knowledge of piping systems, P&IDs, PFDs and simulation software (Hysys, VMGSim, Pipeflo)
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Must possess strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Broad exposure to sweet and sour natural gas facility design and construction related to field facilities (well-sites, gathering systems, compression, etc.) and grass roots gas processing plants
  • Experience with NGL Recovery, Acid Gas Injection Dehydration, Refrigeration, Sulphur Plant, Turbo-Expanders and Gas Sweetening Units will be an asset
  • Excellent organizational, project management and team work skills
  • Strong communication skills: verbal, business writing, electronic communications and presentations
